MYCOLOGY

The fungi being proposed to be used as mycoherbicides are quite distinct from one and another.  Fusarium oxyporum belongs to the Elegans section of the Hyphomycetes of the Fungi Imperfecti.  See Taxonomy section.

The effect of Fungi on soil.

There are two potential effects of mycoherbicides in soils that should be considered: one is the effect of the fungus; its concentration, and its potential for mutation and nonspecificity, which we will discuss here.  The other is the effect of its mycotoxins in the soil. For a discussion of those effects, please go to the Toxicity/soil section of this website.
